The New York Times Lens: Boogie
by Eugene Kan, September 16, 2009

Born in Serbia and experiencing poverty and uneasy-times, photographer Boogie now calls New York City home thanks to a bit of luck in immigrating to the US. Becoming the focus of this latest The New York Times Lens feature, a series of photographs offer us an in-depth look into Boogie’s eye for capturing the often overlooked aspects of New York culture in his signature black and white style. However 2009 has seen him dabble more and more into color images. Check the feature out here.

this guy is sick.
Grimy…I love photography
das wassup fer real.
boogie is fucking nasty. nice work for sure and awesome website.
To those that couldn’t be bothered actually checking the article itself, or bothering to check the captions with the photos (author of this sub article included) – half the shots up there, even less in the article itself, are in NY. And even less are focused on gang culture.
So it’s not a New York editorial, or a glamourisation of NYC gang culture.
Furthermore, Boogie isn’t just some blow-in jumping onto the scene “like it’s something new”. Sure he hasn’t been lurking since the 80’s but look up where he came from – far tougher than New York ever was.
Seriously, people need to look further than Hypebeast for their info.
I like it, this is real new york
so sick!
to “p” obviously you don’t know anything about boogie, the guy has 4 books published and has been doing photography for probably longer then you’ve been around, so before you open your mouth do dome research first. And doing black and white FILM photography is never played out
Dude, b/w is never played out, it’s its own artistic interpretation, but I will agree that the images of NYC’s underworld are getting glamorized by so many wannabe photographers these days. Especially when Sue Kwon drops classic images of the neighborhoods she’s been in for years, and this guy moves there from Serbia taking these pics like it’s something new. Nice images, but not anything we haven’t seen before.
super legit
There’s nothing pretentious in Boogie’s photography or subject matter.
Best photos, 3&5.
beutifull photos
ill.
great shots!
black/white is played out and overly dramatic/pretentious. also nice chicago sox cap in a new york editorial
