Pictures of the Mercedes Benz 2010 SLS AMG– one of Benz’s defining pieces of automotive engineering– have leaked one week ahead of its official unveiling. With inspirations coming from the iconic 300SL, the finely tuned machine is powered by a 6.3-liter V8, delivering 563 ponies and 480 lb-ft of torque to a rear wheel drive format. The engine is matted to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox which propels the car to a 0-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds as it tops out at 197 mph. Available in late 2010, the car comes in with a suggested retail price of €177,310 EUR in Germany (approximately $257,000 USD).

    OMG! im sorry but for us to be criticizing a car that beautiful and exspensive is just unsensical. Look at that thing, im assuming there isn’t a person in this discussion who could even afford a $257,000 car. 0 – 60 in 3.7 and it tops out at 197 mph. that’s fast enough to put us all on our asses just by passing us walking on the street. It’s got my approval!

    This is the first car completely designed and built by AMG, and the engine is not strait off the rack; although it’s the same 6.3 litre block, it’s been significantly upgraded on over 75 parts from the engines in other AMG6.3 litre cars (newly forged pistons, new cams, better valves etc.). As a result, it makes over 50 more bhp than the others. This thing’s a beast, stop hating.

    The design could be a lot better, but not as some other old model remakes. Still no comparison to the mercedes Benz slr.

    it’s a great car, but i have to agree on the design missteps. the wings and modern lights just don’t fit with the silhouette.

    Sorry Benz but you’re trying to sell this at SLR price point with an AMG engine straight from the current catalog … I mean part of the appeal of the SLR was the Mclaren connection … lose that and I really don’t see asking for a quarter mill for this. It’s pretty but using the 6.3 in this looks a little odd given the steep sticker.

    This looks like over price hype….it looks like a nissan mixed with a forgetable benz..the better come futuristic with their next offer….its a recession and even millionaires are not touching this…oh wait millionaires only drive mazeratti and up…I guess some wannabe millionaire rapper will spend his advance on it so some big butt freak can dance on it….peace.

    A perfect example of bad car design. The original was beautiful but drove like a truck. This one is hideous but will handle well so you’ll stay inside it all day. Sitting and staring at this knowing you’ve dropped $250,000+ probably isn’t a good idea.

    A beautiful car can hush its critics as the vast majority of its admirers probably won’t get a chance to drive it thus handling won’t be an issue. An ugly car, especially in an age with so many references and so many resources to put something stunning together is unforgivable.

    Ford and Alfa Romeo paid homage well when they put the GT40 and 8C together respectively so there are no excuses.

    Still considerably cheaper than the 300sl. Many of you people here wouldn’t even be familiar with that car because it’s not a yellow Lambo or Bentley with shiny wheels.

    And while I love the gull-wing on the original, in this day and age, it’s just not practical. May I ask how you intend to get out of your car in a crowded parking lot? The doors just won’t have enough room to swing open if parked next to another car…

    Wow the hood looks like an rx-7, and the whole styling of the car is rx-7 rx-8 like. Love it:))) though i dont like the idea that it might have been copied somewhat.
