**Switch blade grenade*** the reason for the title being so close to NAS’s “NEW YORK STATE OF MIND” is because Nas was actually supposed to be featured on this song.

It’s the best song from a much anticipated album, I thought Jay-z would have come out with hits after hits, but this album was a bit disappointing.

    This one is tight.
I hear everyone saying that Jay is getting old and that his shit isn’t hot anymore.
I disagree! He’s talented and still one of the best rappers.

“Empire State of Mind”…the title sounds a lot like “New York State of Mind”…when is the biting going to stop??? He probably starts it off with another Biggie line. I stopped listening to this guy 10 years ago. I suggest everyone do the same. Weak emcee if you ask me.

The Blueprint 3 is far superior to his last two albums. This track specifically is fire and anyone who is from NYC will appreciate this track and Jay for taking a new route even though his lyrics are timeless. Dont hate Hov for progressing, just listen to the 12th track as loud as possible…Hatersss

after a few listens…it bangs, an anthem for the new york massive pursuing the dream, haters hate, without them hating, you wont be motivated to make it!!!! p.s. ‘venus vs. mars’ bangs hard…

I have to say (given that BP3 leaked yesterday) that even after three listens all the way through: “What happened Hova? You were an idol, innovator of flow, but on every record save ‘Forever Young’ with Hudson you’re laying semi-decent lines over radio beats. This isn’t like you mentioned if we ‘wanted old rhymes to buy your old records’, this is why bite the style thats rotting on the radio and throw it over some beats that sound like elevator music?”

    Jay-Z > BP3

Love Jay, love Alicia but damn what does Jay have to talk about anymore? His million dollar homes? Owning a basketball team? Vacationing in St. Tropez? Hanging with actors and actresses? He is so far removed from the streets that I’m not sure he still has that edge anymore.
