As part of Nike’s vintage running collection and from an era prior to the iconic usage of Air units, the Challenger features a stream-lined profile with an upper including suede, nylon and mesh. Pre-yellowed midsoles are also added to the equation which is available now at colette.

    Um, the reason Nike releases old sneakers with pre-yellowed soles is to try to simulate the mystique of old sneakers. Because new, shiny, pristine-perfect shoes are rather BORING at this stage of the game. Clean, pretty and all Carol Brady is fine in the gym, but all of the time? Come on. If you want that, buy a Jordan brand shoe. And by the way, don’t you think clean, pretty shoes are a little prissy? I do. Apparently some people don’t. So have at it pretty boys.

    And there’s this concept called antiquing. I’m sure it’s over some of your heads, but the idea is to make something new appear old and worn (again, because shiny and new is boring and PASSE). It’s kind of like what jean retailers do with their denim. Kind of like what Ralph Lauren does with some of its paint. Get with it, people. Broaden your spectrum. There’s more than one way to do things. Nike does them all.
