Bobby Hundreds offers a closer look into the opening night of Mike Shinoda’s Glorious Excess (Dies) Exhibition that took place at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles. The show follows Shinoda’s highly-successful 2008 show, Glorious Excess (Born), exploring society’s obsession with celebrity culture, consumer addiction, and fascination with excess. Many top tier personalities were on hand, showing support for the artist and Linkin Park MC. For those that could not make the opening, Glorious Excess (Dies) will remain open to the public until October 4th, 2009.

I think you guys need to actually read into the whole concept of this exhibition. Especially as it mentions specifically why skulls are so prominent in art pieces focused on vanitas, such as Damien Hirst. The whole principle of being caught up in the excess of the high life and how each piece at the show relates to that is stunning. I’d actually rate this show as one of the highlight exhibitions of 2009.

Mike does not get money from his shows, all the money made goes towards his two charities, Music for Relief and the Michael K. Shinoda Endowed Scholarship. The collage of clipping is directly on the wall, it will most likely be taken down after the show is no longer on display and the rest painter over.

7…i would disagree…i’ll bet it was used as a prop to tie into his art pieces. i don’t see mike shinoda as that kind of person…yey i don’t know him personally…but if you read bobbys blog(damn good blog)…and you can learn a little something about ms…he was an artist b4 musician. it was obviously a success looking at bh’s pics.

Hmmm, did YOU notice that collage was the wall in which the art was hung and therefore may make it kiiiiind of difficult to sell?

If anything this lends creedence to Mike Shinoda’s artistic nature; he decided to hang his art on a wall that encapsulated the ideology of the show itself.

Glorious excess does need to die. At least until I get rich. But damn did anybody notice that dude did a collage of magazine clippings and is probably selling it as “art” to some rich nut for a million bucks, gotta love this world!!
