Artist Profile with D*Face on Walrus TV

August 10, 2009Uncategorizedby Staff4 Views

Street artist D*Face makes humorous and satirical commentary with his posters and sculptures, encouraging viewers to re-evaluate their urban environment. With his striking characters and subversively reworked pop icons, he calls attention to consumerism, media, and a public fascination with fame. Citing ‘80’s-era punk rock, skateboard graphics, and Thrasher Skateboard Magazine as major influences, D*Face’s signature aesthetic serves as a culmination of such interests. Based in London, his work has appeared on the streets and in galleries throughout the United Kingdom and the United States. Watch the interview now through Upper Playground‘s Walrus TV.

    Or rather.

Former commercial designer Richard aka D*Farce; who has spotted an opportunity to make some money by applying his same commercial design ethic to his own ‘brand’ attempts to make generic and boring commentary with his silly little posters and manufactured sculptures, copying the ethos of a real pioneer called Shepard Fairey and pretending he’s encouraging anyone who noticed it to re-evaluate their urban environment. With his childish characters and painfully obvious reworked pop icons, he again steals from Obey and trys for all those who don’t know any better, to call attention to consumerism, media, erm advertising, erm rebellion, erm, what else do Banksy and Obey do between them, oh you get the idea, and his own fascination with fame or trying to get famous by bastardising graffiti and real credible street artists; ie the afformentioned. Citing ‘80’s-era punk rock, skateboard graphics, and Thrasher Skateboard Magazine as major influences, this well known control freak clearly hasn’t grown up, and continues his mission to be taken seriously and fool as many mugs as possible with his nicely packaged, middle class rebellion. Based in London, his work has appeared on the streets (usually legal or paid for) and in galleries throughout the United Kingdom and the United States. Watch the interview now through Upper Playground’s Walrus TV. Yeah I know; one minute he hides his identity and one minute he doesn’t. he hasn’t got a clue what he’s doing! I bet if he could do it all again; he’d hide his identity from the start. Shame, he’s just a toy and always will be.
