Incorporating a respect of baseball design through the meticulous weaving and durability of baseball gloves and baseballs itself, Japanese designer Hikaru Matsumura took these inspirations rather literally in the creation of his “The Unique Bag” collection. While the large scale bags may be too closely tied to their baseball roots, the other items such as small coin pouches and pencil cases are a little more figurative and present themselves as a nice balance between innovation and interpretation. One of his most interesting philosophies is that he feels as though numerous bag offerings are often too straight and square in shape and wanted to incorporate more curvatures into the overall aesthetic.

I actually like the larger bags; we don’t play baseball in this country so they’re not obvious to me at all.
