Andreas you are as good as Gold my son…. Have you looked @ Liam G’s new line Pretty Green? Some of the gear is abit alright. Not as pricey as Thom Browne but still not giving it away. Have a looksie. Cheers MODS….

Andreas makes a dood point.. But alot of us who were part of the Mod scene in the late 70s early 80s have a love for the look and scoots of the 60s mods. and feel akin to that vibe. I don’t ride a new vespa and have no plan to buy one. Am I a purist maybe but no matter what you ride new or vintage just have fun. Be a Mod and ride safe..

These people calling then selfs Mods are the perfect example of contradiction and hypocrisy, how can you be a a Mod (modernist and not embrace modernism and modern Vespas), calling modern Vespas “plastic” even when most of the body is made out of metal?

Different from last century Mods, new millennium Mods dress smart, we use modern Vespas no only because they are stylish efficient, fast machines superior machines but also for environmental reasons (there is a reason why Piaggio stopped the production of PX last year), We are educated people that can talk about international affairs and history, we embrace with deep respect our predecessor the original Mods from the 60’s and traditional Skinheads. And yes we are the real Modernist we use our machines on our daly commute -we are not occasional weekend rides.

Dressing crappy and being hateful and beater, riding and Indian made scooter (yes I’m talking about Bajaj or Stella) does not make you a Mod.

OK folks bottom line… I have been on scoots my whole driving life 30+ years, and part of the mod scene for as long. I am lucky to have a scoot from the 50s, 60s,70s and an 80 P 200e. Look, I like vintage rides for myself but if you are out there with a smile on your face that’s all that counts. You could put a Fred Perry logo on dog crap and would like it. That’s how cool those leafs are. And by the way Stella’s are not made in Italy!! So get over it and just have fun….

What does a domestic wife have to do with taste in scooters. Holy hell you are dumb. I like 2stroke scooters, faster actually equals safer, because cars don’t see you. You need to be able to slam on your brakes to avoid them, you also need to be able to speed up to avoid them. Either way, it doesn’t matter. I like classic tastes, I don’t like half assed attempts. This is the PT Cruiser of Scooters.

Vespa has been flopping around like a fish out of water wondering why their modern scooters don’t sell. Then they release a redone P series, out of metal, two stroke (with an environmental regulator) and it sells like crazy. Hmmm weird. (or actually not weird at all.)

If you want to see a company remake classic European styling, look at the Mini Cooper, or even a 4 stroke Stella. Not this abomination.

So, no, I wont take my head out of my hole. I’ll maintain a sense of integrity with design, and write this off like the MP3 scooter, or a Honda Metropolitan. A good idea, that failed to hit the mark.

seriously… you guys need to grow up and realize that just becuase it isn’t a 2 stroke manual, fast as hell ride, doesn’t mean it can’t be classic or cool. even stella is going four stroke next year. if vespa made it manual they would hae gone the way of nash. the bikes are steel with plastic components, just like everything else in this world. so, the lx-v isn’t a 62 gs, but it wouldn’t be cool if they still made the same thing.

you scooter guys need to remove your heads from your holes and get over it. you probably think your woman should stay at home cooking with the kids so you can take your mistress out on your little wasp. there is so much more to life. i am getting back to it.

That’s a modern Vespa…looks like a LXV 150. In which case, it has a steel chassis but the actual body is plastic like all of the modern Vespa’s. Only the older ones are all-metal.

@Jordi E: The toy is probably plastic, but the full size scooter is metal just like every other real Vespa out there.

What’s the deal with that little one in the bottom right-hand corner? Is it a toy? Because that’s a pretty sweet toy.

    Vespa is design <> forever.

Not all Vespas will become vintage one day. For sure not those made of plastic (like this one).

I agree with William and Anthony, I own and ride both auto ad classic vespas and the autos haven’t a patch on geared vespas for reliability….plus they are so much more expensive to maintain it saddens me….

    The Bryce is right.

On the rare occasion that I see someone on a scooter, I point and laugh.

  16. Posted by: drew on May 19, 2009 at 5:40 pm

    Anthony is right.

  17. Posted by: Bryce on May 19, 2009 at 4:56 pm

Poor Anthony. He doesn’t realize that all Vespas will become vintage as the years go by.

  18. Posted by: Anthony on May 19, 2009 at 11:22 am

Total failure. Vespa needs to realize that their best scooters are the vintage ones. Stick with what works. 2 stroke, manual, fast as hell. The only cool part about this bike is the fred perry logo. They should have remade the sprint or the primavera.

  19. Posted by: william on May 19, 2009 at 8:26 am

The new Vespa styling is hideous. Mod purists wouldn’t be caught dead riding one.

Fred Perry should have teamed up with The Genuine Scooter Company and tricked out their Stella model.
