Eminem – 3 AM

by Chad Jordan, May 3, 2009

Eminem’s polysyllabic rhyme patterns, witty wordplay and shocking subject matter has transformed him from local Detroit battle MC to a world wide superstar and a Hip Hop phenomenon. However, it seemed that at some point Marshal Mather’s rap alter egos took over his real life persona, miring the MC in battles with addiction and musical mediocrity for a few albums. Determined to show that his twisted brain is still a humming engine, Em leaves the goofy celebrity mocking at the door for the second single “3 AM” from his aptly titled upcoming album Relapse. The stone faced serious single and video teeters on horror core imagery as Eminem paints vivid pictures of horrific murders over spooky Dr. Dre piano clangs, accompanied by a video that would rival a Wes Craven film.

Not feeling it at all. Disappointed in EM. The video looks like its for a death metal song

i understand you guys talk about the deep meaningful stuffs of eminem’s music, the souls, the interlectuall things, the blah blah blah…but people need to understand these start from the lower level…is like climbing onto a ladder, we need to start from the 1st step then reach the top/deep…if people have already start hate or dislike it at the begining, then everything great and charm in the deeper level is useless, you know what i mean?…if you don;t even know 1+1=2, then 2+2=? will be useless to know…lol

ok, at first, i couldn’t even finish this vid; 2nd, eminem sounds like a younger kid in this vid; 3rd, the style of this vid is more like for a heavy metal band, you know, blood and zombies…i know many people try to do new things, that’s good, but we all know trying new things is very risky, cuz they can easily destroy what they have done before…i don’t know if this will helps eminem reach another success, but i’m sure some people here(include me) don’t get this at all…lol…you can call me a hater, but you can’t make me think the way you think, cuz i have my own way of taste…peace

Video is cool…the song sucks. Not feeling the high pitched voice. I get it.. slim shady is gone and this is a new personality, but for real that voice is just shrilly.

  6. Posted by:monarch on May 4, 2009 at 12:30 pm

AMAZING video, sub par song. the song its self had its lyrical moments but ems flow seems to have vanished and what the fuck is wring with his voice? did he get castrated or something. i mean its no rodney dangerfield but then again it aint exactly up tp par with marshal mathers lp either

  7. Posted by:Pablo on May 4, 2009 at 12:27 pm

    wow that was terrible.

  8. Posted by:SOUNDCLOUD.COM/HUMBLEDINOSAUR on May 4, 2009 at 7:11 am

this high pitch bouncy shit is not cool he needs to go back to slim shady and marshall mathers LP type shit.

  10. Posted by:haters on May 4, 2009 at 12:27 am

lame ass haters… this shit is crazy. Still the best flow of all time.

  11. Posted by:tralx on May 4, 2009 at 12:07 am

See for most of the people in here hating on Em’s flow remember he is one of the best rappers alive hes proven this time and time again hes always setting and reinventing himself this is just another reinvention and its good. Its the best way he can tell the story that he wants to tell and make the flow work he has to add the accent to the end of each word and increase the vocal pace up and down to keep the flow going. Lyrically no body can hate on em in the fact that he tells stories. He isnt as intense as he used to be but thats one of the things that makes this song especially sick. i mean theirs a difference between some intense dude doing this and someone who’s obviously calm and mellow. it takes the song from being just a stupid rant about killing someone which is what it would’ve been and changes it into something legitimately twisted and messed up therefore making it meaningful.

Em trying his best Weezy flow impression = hot garbage. Please disappear again shady ain’t nobody missin your crazy ass.

People who are quick to judge Em’s lyrics and say he’s not on par anymore have no right because as someone who has had his fair share of sitting down and writing verses, I can tell you that the wordplay on this song is INTENSE. Try and make words fit together like that and rhyme with each other and then you can talk. Oh yeah, and they have to make sense. At one point in this song, Em is rhyming 5 words in each bar with the next 5 words. Relapse is a definite cop for me.

damn em is the shit. people needa stop hatin on the real. and btw fuck officer ross!

  15. Posted by:andy on May 3, 2009 at 7:31 pm

I think the squeeky voice kills it. shouldve left that voicee back with “ass like that” . its annoying. he’s flow isnt what it used to be , then again singles are usually not the best songs in an album. im hoping for the best.

  16. Posted by:me on May 3, 2009 at 7:04 pm

    …..who the fuck is eminem?

  17. Posted by:gimme a break on May 3, 2009 at 5:54 pm

Why do people still care about this guy? This is not really that good. It’s decent…not horrible. But it really isnt that good. People are just gonna eat it up because its Em.

More hype. If this wasnt made by “Eminem” but it was made by some white guy in his basement who lives next door to you…you probably wouldnt like it. HYPE.

Yeh, Em needs to do his old style of Rapping, this whole bouncing shit with his voice is just not cool. He used to have one of the best flows of any rapper out there and now he’s just loosing it; he needs to sit down and get to work on some decent flow.

3 am is the morning. this oversight repeated over and over ruins this.

  21. Posted by:fatpat on May 3, 2009 at 2:11 pm

For as much as i love eminem saddly another flop from this new cd. He is trying to go back to his older style, but he just doesnt have the intensity i would expect form him. this song is still probably better then anything out right now though its just not the eminem i was hoping for

  22. Posted by:Peter on May 3, 2009 at 1:24 pm

ok i tried to defend em with his last single but its official now, the relapse is going to be nowhere near any of his previous good albums like marshall mathers or eminem show. this song was just wack

  23. Posted by:Nick on May 3, 2009 at 12:07 pm

WHHHHHAAAAAAATTT THE FUCK!!! My mind has just been fucked!
that was likely the most disturbing video Slim has ever done!
    AMAZINg!

  24. Posted by:Brad Piff on May 3, 2009 at 11:48 am

This is hands down the most graphic music video ever made. WOW….
Song is ill, thou. Eminem’s stamped his status as one of the best that ever did it.

  25. Posted by:kiko on May 3, 2009 at 11:47 am

This video scared me worse then… i dont know what but it was good, i’m glad to see Em’s back though.
