There’s a lot to critique him on, but that’s true of any artist. He happens to be the richest one in the world. He’s keeping no secrets about how he creates some of his work, the fact that much of it is produced by other artists whom he employs etc. and he even has the moxy to demonstrate how he made his multi colored skull paintings right there in the gallery; which by the way was a kid’s toy when I was growing up– those spin painting machines were sold by a toy company, just on a smaller scale. A lot of his work is based on kids toys, children’s encyclopedias . . . it’s very obviously derivative work a lot of the time. I can’t help but be jealous sometimes, but I look him up on the web just to try to get a clue about the art-world, as in the stuff which sells for incredibly high prices while many other talented artists are starving. Somebody must be at the top and right now he happens to be. I can’t blame him for his success, and he strikes me as pretty humble about it; if you see him on the Charlie Rose interview he’s a pretty likable fellow.

I think it’s cheesy art! skull, many colors,… he is popular because it’s very accessible, the message is clear too and is famous about the mutilated animal, very easy way to make a name with shit like this. some artists are more subtle…
