The New York Times: Riding The It Factor

The New York Times recently published a story relating to the current state of bike culture within New York City. Having seen a mass following in fixed gear scene over the past few years, this piece definitely offers an insightful look into what the next “it” factor may be in NYC.

This new It object is the glossy black Dutch bicycle, its design unchanged since World War II. Increasingly imported to the United States and starting to be seen on the streets of New York (and in the windows of at least one clothing store), it appears to have everything a good craze needs. That includes a hefty price tag — usually between $1,000 and $2,000 — and a charming back story about how the bikes have been an indispensable part of the picturesque Dutch cityscape for decades.

The article can be read in its entirety here.

I hate bikers in the city, they never follow the traffic signals, and they shout mean things at you if you happens to be in their path although a light is red. Oh yeah, and that guy riding without a helmet, isn’t very smart, especially in the city. Oh the rich.

I don’t think you read the article: It says pretty much the same thing. I know, I know… all that reading can be tricky.

lol. in this case function is over fashion and the clothes do not fit the function. those clothing pieces would be not “professional” once ridden. only way to keep the clothes that way would be to go slow also, which would mean a large amount of time planning ahead.

1000-2000, a luxury just like that of the macbook air, a luxury only
