Nike Sportswear brings back the classic Sky Force model from their extensive basketball sneaker archives. The kicks take various hints from sneakers of the same era including the Dunk, Terminator, and Vandal. Although the look suggests a bit more of an on-court aesthetic, they are now available at some of the more fashion-forward urban accounts nationwide, including 21 Mercer Street.

“The kicks take various hints from sneakers of the same era including the Dunk, Terminator, and Vandal.” No guys. Sky Forces dropped in 1982 and took cues from none of those shoes mentioned. Those shoes had no influence on the Sky Force. In fact, Sky Forces look more like Air Ships than anything else. Air Ships are one of Nike’s first basketball shoes to have an air unit. They are a shoe I wish Nike would retro. I never had a pair and would love one now. Terminators and Vandals were like ’84/’85 or ’85/’86. Dunks came out in 1986 and were overshadowed by white sneakers like the Big Nike which was more popular and the Air Force II, another mostly white shoe b/c nobody was doing colored sneaks that year. They were out of style. No one would touch them. A sign of the times. Now you can wear anything you want. You could wear a red, white and black Air Jordan original and no one would stare. The shock value is gone. The world has seen it, done it. Different eras. Those colored Sky Forces are a natural progression I guess. My opinion is mixed. They look nice, but I hate to see them in colors b/c originally they are a mostly white shoe. I definitely want the white and red ones.

  • Slow Down

Don who is “supposed” to wear these shoes then? Everyone complains when certain types of people wear certain kicks. It’s stupid. So tell me who are the only people that are “supposed” to wear these shoes then. And don’t answer “basketball players” because then you’ll exclude pretty much every sport shoe in the market.
