Reliable fashion source WWD reports that A Bathing Ape’s general Nigo looks to be stepping down from his role as president and director for the legendary Japanese streetwear brand, founded in 1993. Nigo will remain a majority owner of Nowhere Co., Ltd. which is A Bathing Ape’s parent company. Following a strong showing with his 15th Anniversary last year, this step down comes as a major surprise. He will although continue his role as designer for A Bathing Ape as well as his partnership with singer/producer Pharrell Williams alongside BBC/Ice Cream, where he is head designer and co-owner.

    Too bad it’s not an April Fools people. But the guy is still going to head the design team, and I would personally like to see him go in a completely different direction. Maybe let the “Planet of the Apes” rips die once and for all. Seriously. Sci-fi classic…and you’d think more people would have seen where the guy got his inspiration after years of buying the stuff. Nuff respect to him for decfiding to do something new…that’s just good business. Innovation/change is good.

    The reality is, Bape was cool.. Then after being available to everyone through bootleggers, its value dropped. but most of thier stuff is still cool, just the uniqueness is killed because of the fact that it became so easy to get, well the false anyway. Just like jordans

    i dont think any thing is going to change here he is only stepping down from his role as president and director…. BBC does need more help than Bape tho…hopefully he can focus more on this label now lately its been kinda wack….couple good pieces here and here…ehh.
