In a busy weekend for art, Lance Armstrong held a conference at the Montálban Theater regarding the launch of his latest bicycle meets art endeavor, the Stages Touring Art Exhibition. The whole initiative will comprise of over 21 artist’s from all walks of life, each with different backgrounds and disciplines. However one thing the list of artist doesn’t look is star-power with a quick glance at the selected few representing some of the most well-known artist’s in this current generation. They include KAWS and Barry McGee (who both designed custom bikes) as well as Takashi Murakami, Damien Hirst, Shepard Fairey, Tom Sachs, Geoff McFetridge, Raymond Pettibon, José Parlá, Ed Ruscha, Christopher Wool, Dzine, Eric White, Kenny Scharf, Os Gêmeos, Marc Newson, Rosson Crow, Taryn Simon, JR, Yoshitomo Nara, Suejin Chung, Lari Pittman, Aaron Young and Jules de Balincourt. The whole effort ultimately benefits a worthy cause of the Lance Armstrong Fund and its LIVESTRONG Global Cancer Campaign. The whole event featured a number of marquee people in attendance such as Mark Parker, President and CEO of Nike which also included a look into upcoming product lines for the cause including re-makes of previous popular models as well as LIVESTRONG-specific colorways of various styles. While the artist works inspired by Lance Armstrong are on display now, a special presentation will take place at the world renowned Emmanuel Perrotin Gallery in Paris on July 16th, 2009.
