Damien Hirst x Levi’s “The Spin Jeans”

damien hirst levis spin jeans Damien Hirst x Levis The Spin Jeans

Putting on one of the most successful art shows of all-time last year and the highest grossing contemporary living artists of all-time, artist Damien Hirst has brought forth a certain style to his definition of art. Bold and brash, he teams up with Levi’s on the release of a new denim style. Hardly wearable, the jeans seen here should be considered much more a re-appropriated piece of art than fashion. A multi-colored splatter pattern covers every square inch of a pair of iconic Levi’s denim. The Spin Jeans comprise of only 8 instances worldwide with a suggested retail price of ¥2,625,000 JPY (approximately $27,000 USD).

He has a lot of key concepts that are really different. I think what makes him dope is he believes in his own work so much that it excites him. He’s more of a marketing guru than an artist…..when you have that much paper it’s easy to say….Ok, now I’m gonna do this…..there’s all this freedom to come up with these wierd ideas….his ideas can’t be beat down…he’s gone to the moon.

any good painter can make these, but the thing is who did it first, sure when you see a concept you can copy . the real ? is ,did he copy from hippies 60s 70s ? think

its a matter of theory and praxis.
    art is not strictly aesthetic.
    people need to respect HIRST
read one of his books, then tell me he’s a lousy artist.
the man is a fucking genius.

With that price tag and the appearance of the pants, it would take a brave soul to wear those in public, but I doubt that’s their purpose. It’s quite obviously an art piece to be framed and hung in a gallery or home.

There have been plenty of artists in the past whose pieces might be considered questionable but yet time has proved them to be representative of their genre: Mondrian’s Composition series, Pollock’s trademark splatter paintings, or any of Rothko’s or Newman’s artwork.

To summarize, don’t be so quick to judge and too dense to look deeper into it. After all, Emilio Pucci’s Abstract Expressionism inspired apparel and footwear aren’t so far away from Hirst yet he’s the head of a high fashion house.

lol wtf this isnt art. If i get something random and throw paint all over it, would it magically transform into art? haha fuck this guy

You guys need to calm down about if he’s serious about this or how he’s just ridiculous. This isn’t the first time an artist has done something that doesn’t look like much but it’s still a piece of art, and you can’t argue with that. These aren’t meant for wearing. Even if he did contract this stuff, it’s still his original idea. And he is pretty original, or else people wouldn’t be shocked by this.

get real damien, you dont do any of you own your own work, you contract it all, and still you’re unoriginal and ridiculously overpriced

Wow.. that the price of a car.

Then again, this is a work of art rather than a wearable piece of fashion.

Hey, if ya can afford it, then great!
