The watermelon theme has been in full force as of late. A number of instances featuring the summertime favorite have dropped including CLOT and their Bearbrick (from last year), CLOT’s Levi’s denim release, Estate LA and their tear-away cap and even adidas Consortium who are also in the midst of dropping a watermelon inspired sneaker. Regardless, whether you like it or love it, here’s another take on the theme of fruit via Vans. Coming in women’s sizes are a three-pack featuring the Chukka, Era and Slip-On. Each feature a canvas upper featuring that succulent pink watermelon flesh while the sole represents the rind. Look for these to start hitting stores in early March with other packs on the way with a fruity theme.

[...] Included in this women’s pack is three Vans models – the Era, Slip-On and Chukka. All three models feature a watermelon-red canvas upper with black printed dots that resemble the seeds. Sticking with the particular fruit theme, they also contain a green midsole similar to the fruit’s rind. A white rim separates the green from the red as does a typical watermelon. Check your nearest Vans retailer in March for this mouth-watering pack. Via Hypebeast. [...]

(not that anyone’s reading this thread anymore, since we’re all onto the next overhyped shoe or shirt or whatever) but i’ve been rocking a pair of the all black vans eras for the last year or so, i sure hope i haven’t been offending anyone ; )
jokes aside. thanks vans4life for enlightening me tho i’d never come across that connection or stereotype, and i’d have to agree with ‘not a racist’ that it would be a more positive move to try and avoid finding the negative interpretation in everything, no matter what it is. x

    god… i’d rock durians though… super EXOTICA!

  9. Posted by: Shinchi on February 13, 2009 at 5:19 pm

I think you gotta be retarded to think they’re racist… mind you most people who cry racism in everything are retarded. So fuck em’

…I wouldn’t rock em’ though, red and green are two colours that just don’t match.

I’m a black girl and I would def rock these! These shoes are not racist, because it’s a watermelon? Are you serious? It’s a fruit!! I agree with not a racist, please stop looking for racial undertones in things that aren’t there and grow up.

  11. Posted by: SWATCH on February 13, 2009 at 4:26 pm

Did you find the BBC waffle print racist also?????

  12. Posted by: not a racist on February 13, 2009 at 12:49 pm

constantly finding racist undertones in things that have absolutely nothing to do with racism makes you a racist. think about that.

Vans were started by surfer/skater guys in the 60s and now all these minorities in inner cities think Vans are new and what not. know your history before you go around accusing others of being racist.

is this year the “year of watermelon”? many brands use this idea already…

  17. Posted by: fredd on February 13, 2009 at 1:07 am

Shiiit… I thought I was going to rock these this spring, but appearantly I won’t… I promise, it’s not only girls who like red, pink and such stuff. And girls don’t want their sneakers red, pink or purple all the time either, so c’mon… :/

i don’t see any connection between a pair of vans shoes that have watermelon print and the black person stereotype.. so everything that’s related to watermelon is a black stereotype?

    I’m Black. Can’t do it.

  30. Posted by: Quickstriker on February 12, 2009 at 3:22 pm

Well actually I don’t think these are meant for guys. They have apples and oranges too-it’s kind of a spring fruit theme. All the girls loved these though. Not really a guy shoe unless you roll that way haha

lol @ a black guy. I don’t know about you, but my mom would beat my ass. Then she’d call up the spirits of Rosa Parks & MLK Jr. to finish the job.
