Kenny Scharf already did that....paintings with the Jetsons and Flinstones....Kaws will continue to regurgitate cartoon characters from the 80's and up....if you look at history (early)graf artists have always used recognizable characters on the subways and walls....and the public really responded to it. His concept seems so simple that it's downright silly but it's a formula...a recognizable image that connects.(childhood symbolism) Dondi(rip) talked about this in the 80's....he spoke about how graf artists were competing "aboveground" ....how everybody was searching for a style on canvas. 'It's like beating the other guy to the punch since there is just so much you can do with spray paint.' A gallery owner told me...when graf artists do stuff on canvas in a smaller scale(with spray paint) something gets lost... It was just a matter of compostion and style that Kaws discovered....painting with cel-vinyl.(not as simple as it looks) There are a history of noble failures that paved the way for this guy...each one teach one.
