In what began as a simple project between Andy Spade and his wife, the couple set out to create a collection of handbags for women which were “neither overly precious nor boring basics”. In the process of developing their women’s collection, their ultimate goal of providing a functional and aesthetically pleasing bag spilled over to the men’s side of things. Their first series of bags would make their way into hardware stores knowing full well the clientele would be looking for something functional. Soon therefore after, the bag makers took on board a graduating art student to take the relationship of aesthetics and function to a new level. Fast forward more then 10 years, Jack Spade has continued their philosophy. Their latest collection “Lochcarron” features wool tartan derived from Scotland’s Lochcarron. Characteristics of the angus tartan include stain and water resistancy as well as a heavy weight wool construction. The materials can be seen over an extensive collection ranging from messenger bags to luggage tags and pouches. Available now at Blackbird.
