agree with SOULD. the real joke is the people buying this stuff. Pharrell and Nigo are ballin on your ignorance. spend your money as you please, that’s your choice but walking around with that shit on only makes me feel sorry for the little man that lives inside you.

    2. i can’t believe people are even debating with the likes of “Sean”. Someone please buy this kid a dictionary and hooked on phonics. That writing is some of the most pathetic crap I’ve ever read.
    “das da reality” .. really?

then again… what do we actually buy that is worth the price???…(beauty) the value is that of the beholder….

you already know you are paying for the name…and also the art whether it be futuristic simplistic nostalgic abstract whatever whatever whatever…whether it has a true message or not….

everything is marked up…jordans nikes whatever….i’m not too crazy about his stuff but i like how nigo and pharell were able to take casual clothing and make it high end…they created a market and more jobs and money for independent dudes….

last time i walked into a louis vuitton store….i saw a cotton/poly blend zip hoody for $1200…and there was a cotton raincoat for $2400….what’s the difference???

as a business man and artist..you need to charge certain prices to maintain the value of your stuff…of course the once you have a name that helps..and the exclusivity is definitely a factor….

think about this…what is the difference between $100 bill and a 1 dollar bill?….there are both just piece of paper….no longer backed by gold since over 50 year ago…so what gives it it’s value???..

yes there are less 100s than 1s in circulation..but in general we the people as a whole is what gives something it’s value…we allow it to have value…

i drop maddd money on the 100s of sneakers i own when i only have 2 feet…of course sneakers that i think are pleasing to the eye…some of them cost me 20 bucks…others up to 200…

some of my friends and family worked your avg paying jobs and they would rather use their money on vacation or gambling and they never spend more than 40 bucks on their 1 or 2 pairs of shoes the buy a year…they just get something to suffice…

and these people obviously arent the target market here…

At the risk of repeating previous posts… the price point is almost entirely about the name (and names behind it), period. As much as people give BBC (and BAPE) sh-t, including us, they were brilliant to come up with the BBC name, because it’s perceived as a justifiable excuse to charge huge prices, plus, they absolutely know they’re playing into the fragile egos of primarily young people, who will seemingly pay any price to “look cool” and appear to be part of an “exclusive” club/fraternity of people…i.e. “I paid big money to be part of this ‘club.’” This is why there is a basic BBC logo tee in every release…it’s probably their best seller, because it proclaims inclusion. It’s the same reason you see low-income women rockng $1500+ LV bags… and kids/young adults driving leased Beemers to their fast food jobs… it’s a relatively “affordable” way to raise their social status… or perceived socioeconomic status, even though the reality is, they’re living paycheck-to-paycheck and can barely make rent. fyi: screenprinting is not that expensive, or else, none of us smaller brands could even get started. That said, even if their goods are cut n’ sew (which, I HOPE they are at least doing…though of course, the New Eras are stock), it’s still a completely inflated price, which they can get away with because A.) Affiliation with BAPE B.) co-owned by Pharrell, who is seemingly a god in the music/”streetwear” community C.) cats paid for their first release of gear… so why not keep sucking the well dry? Truth is, Pharrell and Nigo are laughing all the way to the bank. I’m not hating on them or the consumer (“disagreeing” is a better term than “hating”), I’m just explaining why it’s happening… however, in my opinion, selling 1-color prints on truckers, New Eras and Hoodies is f’d up, period… However, it’s also indicative of the society we live in. Last thing… small brands charge high prices, because they have to (i.e. fewer stores = few pre-sales = fewer pieces made = higher per/unit prices)… BAPE/BBC make smaller batches/charging high prices because they can (i mean, look at some of the New Eras Mishka has done…super intricate design/construction…they sell for $50-$70 right?… these guys are charging double that for a 1-color graphic on a stock New Era cap… think about it). Someday, we’ll all laugh at this… assuming this conspicuous consumption eventually ends… haha… probably wishful thinking.

Seriously, these prices are nothing new to you guys. You know what to expect. I can give you plenty of the usual run-of-the-mill reasons as to why these brands cost what they do; but simply put, Bape and BBC / Ice Cream wanted their own level in the streetwear market. Nothing about quality, exclusivity, hype, etc.

If you are complaining about the cost, then clearly these brands are not marketed towards you. Plus, you more than likely are not purchasing for the right reasons. Think about it.

Now cut out the flaming. And take it for what it is.

PS: Those New Era caps do cost more in Japan and Hong Kong. The price is still $85 at the NYC store.

At what point did it become acceptable for a New Era to cost $116. The old $85 BBC New Era were a bit ridiculous but still buyable… however, I don’t know if I can justify the extra $30, especially for weak design like that.

LOL, “Broke People” thats classic. If your cool with buying a t-shirt with a screenprint of an ice cream cone on it for $100 when it doesnt even cost a fraction of that price then maybe your brain is the “broke” thing here. I have no problem dropping loot on something thats worth it. Maybe I should do a t-shirt line with screen prints of my “privates” on it and charge $200 for it. I bet you would eat that $hit up wouldnt you Space Beach. You cant judge style or quality by price anymore. And most of these urban brands are proving that right with ever line they drop. The stuff stops becoming original and starts looking the same. I could have sworn Ive seen everything above before.

not sure what to make of this. i like the navy tee with outlined green cone and ‘ice cream’ writing but like the last comment the prices are high for what you get. How much is Mr Williams trading off reputation i wonder…..

The prices on this stuff is ALWAYS f*king crazy. Most of it is just a simple screenprint too. Since when did clothing from JAPAN become so sought after and expensive? I thought we had these countries making our clothing and goods to help keep the price down. Not to pay $77 for a Hanes Beefy T and a screen print on it.
