Reaching the ranks of the world’s most well-known and identifiable artists, Takashi Murakami is the subject of FABRIK Gallery’s latest exhibit titled Takashi Murakami +. The Japanese pop-artist has earned critical acclaim from around the world for his remarkable ability to combine both high and low aspects of art with strong pop-culture influences. The show itself includes not only the works of Murakami himself, but also drawing two artists from the talented Kaikai Kiki (a company created for artist development) roster of artists, Mr. and Chiho Aoshima. The exhibition includes works from 2001 to 2008 including some memorable DOB pieces. DOB is a mouse-like character developed by Murakami which was based on the Japanese slang term “dobojite”, meaning “why?”. Through the actions of DOB, Murakami was able to assume an alter-ego for commenting on Japanese society. The show takes place from now until September 30th.

    Fabrik always overpriced their work.. (Banksy signed Napalm was priced at HK$420,000 ($54,000) at their previous Banksy show in April) That’s about 8-10 times the secondary market value… The Murakami prints were not as crazy, they were only 3-4 times the current market value.. Who are they trying to fool?

    So anyways takashi is sick and I’m trying to find some of his prints for sale. I kno honeyee was selling some a while ago but I can’t find any now.

    These are great. It wasn’t just Warhol who did screen printing though, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtensten, and a host of others have employed it as a way to commodify their work. Murakami is following thier lead, but unlike those guys he adds his own characters to iconic images, in turn creating his own, brand new imagery.     To the first two people above:

    YES THOSE PAINTINGS WERE PRINTED. SCREEN PRINTING AND OTHER STYLES OF PRINTING ARE SIGNIFICANT PARTS OF “POP ART.” IT WAS A VERY BIG PART OF WARHOL’S SUCCESS AS WELL.

    takashi is nice but if da person above me is leadin onto the same suspision about the louis v logos that say by takashi is funny 2me cuz they look like they were printed
