“Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool” Certified Gold for Hypebeast

Posted by: Eugene Kan / September 12, 2008 / 17 Comments

In the latest digital age, nobody needs to tell you that music sales are dwindling which makes Lupe Fiasco’s sophomore album “Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool” and its official certification for gold in the United States all the more impressive. We were more then surprised when this display landed on our door-step as an homage to Fiasco’s feat of selling over 500,000 copies. The impressive piece features a detailed image of the Chicago-native alongside both a golden LP and the monumental CD. A descriptive panel outlines the achievement and the special RIAA designation. A big congratulations and thanks to Lupe Fiasco and his team.

I still do not understand how an album like this could only sell 500,000 and garbage Lil Wayne sells a million.

The reason you don’t understand how this album only goes gold is because none of you all understand record sales or the american public. Nas is better that Lupe and Wayne, and may not even go gold. Sales does not mean your a better lyricist, means your a better entertainer. Wayne’s album, was more entertaining, period. Also Wayne put out such a large amount of features and mixtape material, that nobody was trying to download his album prematurely. Lupe, did the opposite. And got exposed. It sure did take a while for him to go gold.

I strongly disagree with that statement about waynes album being more entertaining. to be honest I purchased both this album and waynes and nas’ and to me they all sucked. each had a few good tracks mixed in with a whole lot of bs. that’s why these rappers aren’t selling. Well execpt for lil wayne. At this point he could put an album of farts (which is what the carter 3 sounded like to me) and go diamond.

just because something sells a shit ton , doesn’t mean it’s quality. WALMART sells the most product in the states, but is not the best store. The best stuff (whether it’s fashion , music, literature, et al) is for the elite.

Exactly, look at all that boyband and pop shit that comes through everyday to sell millions. Hell look at The Fucking Jonas Brothers; those little bitches sell millions of albums and it’s total trash. It’s all about marketing, Lupe isn’t a majorly commercial artist so he’s not going to get massive amounts of marketing. Where-as the JB are squeaky clean and can be marketed to 11yr old girls for easy sales; Lupe is above that. In the long run though, people will look back and remember Lupe for being a respected artist and that’s what is most important. He’ll be able to ride it out alot longer.

[...] Award-winning Certified Gold artist Lupe Fiasco joins close homie Dr. Romanelli as part of next year’s PRODUCT (RED) project with Converse. The PRODUCT (RED) initiative is to build awareness and raise money for humanitarian efforts. An understated bit of flash is seen via an all-black patent leather Chuck Taylor. Gone is the usual rubber toecap as well as the typical heel patch, both replaced with the full patent leather deal. Keeping with the PRODUCT (RED) theme, hints of red can be seen on the trademark top eyelet and sole as well as on a strip across the side. These lows join a previously previewed high-top from awhile back with rumors the high-top will release next January. [...]
