“How many kids know of the Pigeon Dunk but have never actually seen them with their own two eyes?…”
-jeffstaple

The almost mythical pigeon derived from the minds over at Staple Design is set for a comeback, three years after its Nike SB Dunk Low’s release sparked wide-spread chaos and panic amidst the streets of New York. This time around, jeffstaple and crew look to New Balance’s trail runner the 575 as the cornerstone of their latest sneaker inspiration. In an in-depth interview with Sneaker Freaker, some pressing issues are featured including what reactions are expected out of the Nike camp as well as jeffstaple’s reasoning behind reliving some a historic shoe which he mentions changed the face of the sneaker world. For the shoe itself, the color placement is actually quite similar to the original SB Dunk including the pigeon-foot orange seen on the lining and sole. Also seen is a new embroidery on the heel featuring a flying pigeon to go alongside the original standing pigeon. Following up on Staple Design’s recent involvement with Lomo, a Pigeon-colored Lomo camera will also release. Singapore has already announced an August 6th release at Leftfoot Singapore and Le Vault.

“nothing is original today, its how you edit your cultural references…”

  10. Posted by: racunonline on August 2, 2008 at 1:09 pm

stupid and ugly design. a rape to the idea of “limited edition”. it will ended up made in some asian country instead of the likes of NB st33 with upmost quality. staple you your 15 minutes is up.

I like these a lot better than the Dunks. Dunks are played anyway. And New Balance sneakers are dope. Hopefully these won’t be as limited and available to those who want them cause they like them.

staple is weak. he’s not doing any nikes again cuz he isn’t bringing anything.

  16. Posted by: bair-SNtials on August 1, 2008 at 4:27 pm

there’s only one OG, the nike ones of course. Gues they’re tryin to boost NB’s reputation.

  17. Posted by: AO on August 1, 2008 at 3:17 pm

I understand Jeff’s “branding” but the design could’ve been so much better…they’re just ugly

  18. Posted by: AO on August 1, 2008 at 3:16 pm

    these are terrible

  19. Posted by: *Future* on August 1, 2008 at 3:14 pm

Man jeff isn’t “milking” anything, He’s capitalizing off a very popular brand that made history when it came out. I could see if homie was making Pro-Ked pidgeons but c’mon New Balance is a reputable company. Stop ya Bitchin!

jeff staple you copied espo with the pigeon so.. i have no respect for u

  21. Posted by: Chris Lee on August 1, 2008 at 2:34 pm

Jeff Staple is banned from Nike after this. He will never do another nike, Sandy sent an all company email stating “anyone caught talking to staple will be fired” Staple is cut off, and c’mon leave the pigeon alone.. whats next.. a pigeon Timberland?

  22. Posted by: no creation on August 1, 2008 at 1:16 pm

not to hate but staple design is really mostly hype… there are other ways to capitalize on the pigeon idea….this is really a lazy idea on a design level…. shoulda done a sewer rat or something…weak jeff.

  23. Posted by: mcstandup on August 1, 2008 at 12:42 pm

really not the most creative concept…

  24. Posted by: rod on August 1, 2008 at 11:34 am

staple is set for life milking his pigeon theme. this NB is decent, but very no brainer

  25. Posted by: * on August 1, 2008 at 11:06 am

Nike probably all ready cut him off from any more collabs after this one.

  26. Posted by: * on August 1, 2008 at 11:05 am

I wonder if Jeff will ever work with Nike again? You know Nike is the Mafia in the sneaker game.

  27. Posted by: English Teacher on August 1, 2008 at 10:43 am

“mythical” “pressing issues”…Learn to write buddy, half the shit you write is horrible.

  28. Posted by: anon on August 1, 2008 at 10:23 am

800 globally? come on Jeff, lets let people actually buy and wear this one.

  29. Posted by: 24236346 on August 1, 2008 at 9:20 am

the 577 look like the US NB 580’s. Personally I would have liked to see the Japanese 580 design with the colorway. After all, Jeff had to go through Japan to get these made. Ugh.. why is it in the US we have the crappy ST33 designs.

  30. Posted by: CommonSensei on August 1, 2008 at 9:13 am

sorry i meant kacy. . . but i’ve never actually been a dunk guy and i kind of like these better b/c the reflective material adds a little something to an otherwise tame colorway. i’m actually wanting these more with every passing second.

  31. Posted by: CommonSensei on August 1, 2008 at 9:05 am

I’m torn when it comes to these, because i agree with katy’s post, but yet i also would love to own these. And NB and Nike are the two brands i have consistently bought, so considering i missed out on the pigeon dunks. . .

  32. Posted by: Kacy on August 1, 2008 at 8:41 am

I think these will sell out, but there no where near as Revolutionary as the Pigeon Dunks. I wouldve liked to see a new concept this time around, but i guess they are just going to keep milking that same design.

  33. Posted by: SKAM LECRAM on August 1, 2008 at 8:37 am

is this releasing in the US and when?

  34. Posted by: phil on August 1, 2008 at 7:33 am

It looks nice. I see the hate building up fo this from bothe the Nike heads and the die hard NB heads. Nike heads will probably hate and NB heads will hate the fact that it’s the dunk colorway. NB has held it’ sown in collabs such as the Toothpaste pack and Kilates. Funny, they had to go through Japan’s project line instead of the US to get this made.
