Felipe Oliveira Baptista for Nike AW77

Posted by: Charles Cheng / August 08, 2008 / 11 Comments

As part of an exhibition held by Nike Sportswear, five people have been chosen to put their personal reinterpretation on five iconic Nike products. Designer Felipe Oliveira Baptista will design the AW77, DJ Pedro Winter will put his spin on the Air Force One, rapper Sefyu will deck out the Air Max 90, Andrea Crews is in charge of the Dunk, while Jonas and Francis is taking care of the Windrunner.

Here we show you the AW77 by Felipe Oliveira Baptista. Famous for his simple colors and unusual silhouette, Felipe is the first Portuguese to be invited on the calendar of Paris Haute Couture Collections. With a background more in couture fashion, he definitely took the AW77 to a different level by cutting off the sleeves or transforming it into a dress, but still keeping the original simplicity of the piece. It will be available in August, and more information regarding the exhibition to come soon.

Extremely nice work by Baptista and crew. The minimalist set really allows the reinterpreted pieces to take center stage. The altered top shown in the first in third photos are really nice, but the piece that resonates with me most are the parachute looking pants; which are just the fleece (I think) AW77 track

id love to see nike explore more couture oriented projects like adidas does with Y-3 . this is really sick.
