banksy alabama 01 500x340 Banksy blows by Alabama

Yesterday we saw Banksy paid a visit to New Orleans and give some of their buildings and even houses the Banksy treatment. If you missed it, click here. In his latest escapades through the Southern US, the famed stencil artist swooped by Birmingham, Alabama and made a bold statement to probably the most notorious group of all time.

Perhaps I’m not the intended audience, being a native of Birmingham born well after the Klan was beaten back into the shadows. I’m pretty sure I don’t understand the relevance of the piece. I do know that the black man who came over ask me about it while I was looking at the work didn’t appreciate it at all. The best we could come up with was that it was humorous. If that’s the whole point of it, then great.

It’s off the Bush blvd/ensley exit off 20/59. if you’re driving from b’ham, take a left off the exit ramp, (right if from Tuscaloosa). Once you take a left (or right), it’ll be about 80 yards from the ramp on the left…it’s across from a little market shop

Wow.. very powerful piece he did. Crazy. its not even about who did it first. The fact that he put his piece up in Alabama, says alot. Knowing that there are more KKK members in Alabama than anywhere else.

also..I dont think jim thiebauds clansman was wearing a business suit underneath. That speaks volumes. The fact that he is on foreign soil and is speaking such volumes is amazing. He is literally slapping the USA across its entire face.

It doesn’t matter that the graphic has been done before. What matters is that this graphic by Banksy is up in a low income and minority populated area of BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA. Damn if you can’t figure out the significance of that than you mad st00pz.

    Yo.

I have to agree with slimydog, his US material is definitely on point.

    Peace!

His pieces on Melrose were sick too. I like his US material better than elsewhere.

Yes! Bansky is king! I don’t think anyone can touch him. He’s like some bandit who’s running through the American south with a torch and a mask, and no one can catch him. I think he’s amazing.

Banksy is killin it.. That’s what I like to see! Rather if the graphic was used before. Its expression. I know fasure if I pass by that joint. I will be chantin out “hell yeah they need to get hanged!” so yahh got a hold of that. I know he is heading to the atl. Ohh I know he has to murder

i think its not about what the image is but what the image about.Hanging KKK maybe been done before, but if you know banksy pieces, he’s a genius in his respected kinda way.

  22. Posted by: baker on August 31, 2008 at 5:21 am

No offence to Banksy, I think he’s quality, but a hanging Klan member was already used waaay back as a Jim Thiebaud graphic for Real.

This piece is right down the street from me its in the heart of a medium to low income minority community. I passed by it going to work on 08-30-08 and i was thinking wow. just the artistic expression speaks volumes especially in Birmingham Alabama. Respect.
