Alan Jaras Photography of Light
by Charles Cheng, July 31, 2008

British artist, Alan Jaras, creates beautiful works of art using the simplest subject, light. With a light passing through transparent objects such as textured glass, Jaras is able to capture these light refraction patterns directly onto 35mm film, without using a lense. By using various color filters, he is able to create amazing natural images of light explosions without using any computer graphics.

I’ve worked in this style for a long time, it’s really fun, and you get amazing results, which then you can work with in other media, or exhibit them as they are, but seeing these and the responses has made me pretty confident for sharing my own stuff
SHOPPED!!!
lol, just kidding. someone had to go there, right?
these images are absolutely breathtaking. i’d love to know what filters were used and what the light sources were…
Thanks everybody for your great comments - they’re really appreciated. Just to answer a couple of questions; although the images are large (file sizes up to 300MB)if I publish large enough for wallpapers I’ve had the images stolen, the copyright infringed and the images offered for sale by the culprits.
>Joel;some selected limited edition prints are available from http://www.agitatto.com, I’ve had one exhibition but I’m happy to hear from more galleries.A slight correction, I use just one single light source and yes it is fun.
great work, its fun to work with lights!
do you exhibit?
Fawkes she/he said it right, and yes it is French.
Very beautiful and vivid photography! I agree, I want it as a background too
Beautiful. It always amazes me the different ways that people find to make beautiful art.
Dreamcrusher, you do know you said “three good” in spanish, right? If you were trying to speak French, I think you want to say “tres bon”, But I don’t speak grenouille.
Great use of LIGHT…

That’s amazing. The first guy hit it on the head. There is so much more than we know, that goes on in this worls, things we’ll probably never know. But this is beautiful.

Very, very nice.
That’s incredible.
I can appreciate it after taking a photography class. It beautifully innovative and that’s what it’s about. respect it
Damn, I really wish the res was higher so i could use as my wallpaper
That really makes you stop and think… There’s way more to this world than we are now able to understand. Perhaps when we are one we will. Or maybe we won’t care to understand and will just kick back and enjoy the show…
Beautiful
